Hike #53 September 14, 2014 Meaford

Hike #53
Date – September 14, 2014
Location – Maps 30 Bayview Nature Reserve and 29 Owen Sound East
Distance – 17.5
Total Trail Distance – 718.4 (175.6 to go)
Hikers – Dean, Marlene, Benjamin, Steve, Jacob, Madeleine and Kent
Start – 47.2 22 Sideroad & 11th Line, Sydenham Section (Really River Kwai Side Trail)
End – 29.7 Bognor Marsh Management Area, Sydenham Section
Direction – South
Weather – Cool and grey, but at least it’s dry

This is Day Two of the two-day hike in the Meaford area, and we are joined by Madeleine and Kent who meet us at the start.

Steve had informed us last night he was not going to be hiking today because 22 k was too far. But when he drove up to the start to drop Jacob off he has had a change of heart. His knee is feeling better – perhaps lubricated by last night’s medicinal rye.

A new re-route at the start of today’s hike (the landowner’s livestock are being harassed by hikers’ dogs) means that we end up omitting the re-route along the River Kwai Side Trail and travel the same distance on a parallel course along St. Vincent-Sydenham Townline Road.

The hike ends at Bognor Marsh Management Area, with and impressive series of boardwalks, observation platforms and interpretive panels.

Simon, make sure you do this hike too!
